Experimental evidence for the relaxation coupling of all longitudinal 7Li magnetization orders in the superionic conductor Li10GeP2S12

    Get PDF
This contribution addresses the experimental proof of the relaxation coupling of the 7Li (I = 3/2) longitudinal magnetization orders in the solid-state electrolyte Li10GeP2S12 (LGPS). This effect was theoretically described by Korb and Petit in 1988 but has not yet been shown experimentally. In a 2D-T1/spin-alignment echo (SAE) experiment, the inverse Laplace transformation of the spectral component over two time dimensions revealed the asymmetric course of the spin-lattice relaxation following from the coupling of all longitudinal orders. These observations were supported by Multi-quantum-filter experiments and by simulations of the 2D-T1/SAE experiment with a lithium spin system. Since the asymmetric relaxation effects are directly dependent on the velocities and degrees of freedom of ion motion they could be used especially in fast Li-ion conductors as a separation tool for environments with different mobility processes

Theory for transport through a single magnetic molecule: Endohedral N@C60

We consider transport through a single N@C60 molecule, weakly coupled to metallic leads. Employing a density-matrix formalism we derive rate equations for the occupation probabilities of many-particle states of the molecule. We calculate the current-voltage characteristics and the differential conductance for N@C60 in a break junction. Our results reveal Coulomb-blockade behavior as well as a fine structure of the Coulomb-blockade peaks due to the exchange coupling of the C60 spin to the spin of the encapsulated nitrogen atom.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, v2: version as publishe

Generation of correlated Rayleigh fading channels for accurate simulationof promising wireless communication systems

    Get PDF
In this paper, a generalized method is proposed for the accurate simulation of equal/ unequal power correlated Rayleigh fading channels to overcome the shortcomings of existing methods. Spatial and spectral correlations are also considered in this technique for different transmission conditions. It employs successive coloring for the inphase and quadrature components of successive signals using real correlation vector of successive signal envelopes rather than complex covariance matrix of the Gaussian signals which is utilized in conventional methods. Any number of fading signals with any desired correlations of successive envelope pairs in the interval [0, 1] can be generated with high accuracy. Moreover, factorization of the desired covariance matrix is avoided to overcome the shortcomings and high computational complexity of conventional methods. Extensive simulations of different representative scenarios demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposedtechnique. The simplicity and accuracy of this method will help the researchers to study and simulate the impact of fading correlation on the performance evaluation of various multi-antenna and multicarrier communication systems. Moreover, it enables the engineers for efficient design and deployment of new schemes for feasible wireless application

A Comparative Analysis of Selected Producer Characteristics and Production Practices of Small Livestock Producers in Three Southeastern States of The US

    Get PDF
It is germane to know the characteristics and practices of small livestock producers in order to assist them; however, there are a paucity of investigations on the subject in the Southeastern US. Thus, this study assessed selected producer characteristics and production practices of small livestock producers in three Southeastern States. The data were collected from three samples of producers in several counties of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that, a majority of producers practiced rotational grazing, had parasite problems, quarantined newly acquired animals, and used veterinary services. Additionally, a majority sold their animals live, and many kept records manually or on a computer. The findings indicate commonalities across the three states, in terms of rotational grazing, parasite problems, quarantine, how animals are sold, and record keeping. There is a need to assist small producers in certain aspects of production practices and in value-added processe

Applications of coxsackievirus A21 in oncology

The clinical management of cancer continues to be dominated by macroscopic surgical resection, radiotherapy, and cytotoxic drugs. The major challenge facing oncology is to achieve more selective, less toxic and effective methods of targeting disseminated tumors, a challenge oncolytic virotherapy may be well-placed to meet. Characterization of coxsackievirus A21 (CVA21) receptor-based mechanism of virus internalization and lysis in the last decade has suggested promise for CVA21 as a virotherapy against malignancies which overexpress those receptors. Preclinical studies have demonstrated proof of principle, and with the results of early clinical trials awaited, CVA21 may be one of the few viruses to demonstrate benefit for patients. This review outlines the potential of CVA21 as an oncolytic agent, describing the therapeutic development of CVA21 in preclinical studies and early stage clinical trials. Preclinical evidence supports the potential use of CVA21 across a range of malignancies. Malignant melanoma is the most intensively studied cancer, and may represent a “test case” for future development of the virus. Although there are theoretical barriers to the clinical utility of oncolytic viruses like CVA21, whether these will block the efficacy of the virus in clinical practice remains to be established, and is a question which can only be answered by appropriate trials. As these data become available, the rapid journey of CVA21 from animal studies to clinical trials may offer a model for the translation of other oncolytic virotherapies from laboratory to clinic
